I am contacting you because the family of Eleanor Parker has identified you as
friend, colleague, or associate of Eleanor. As you likely know by now, we lost
Eleanor in October of this year. In her memory, the League of Women Voters is
establishing a one-time memorial scholarship to be awarded in Eleanor’s name
and we need your help.

Eleanor was a life member (50 years) of the League of Women Voters Eden Area,
serving multiple terms as President, Vice President, Secretary, Editor, and
Historian. She also supported many women's social causes including National
Women's Political Caucus, American Association of University Women, and women's
equity in all areas of business and society. She was also a passionate lover of
the parks system and the great outdoors, leading walks for eight years in many
East Bay Regional Parks as Ambassador for 50-Plus Lifetime Fitness Association.
Her motto was "Keep Moving, Stay Fit, Have Fun."

Eleanor was also an alumnae of Oakland Tech High School, of which she was very
proud. As a tribute to Eleanor and to honor her life-long commitment to social
and environmental justice, the Eleanor Parker Memorial Scholarship will be
awarded to a young woman senior student at Oakland Tech with a demonstrated
interest in public policy, public administration, or a similar academic area;
and who is going on to college. We want to assist someone with these
qualifications who would truly benefit from the financial assistance.

We want to make the scholarship meaningful for the recipient and a solid
tribute to Eleanor. In order for that to happen, we need your participation.
Therefore, we are asking for your donation to make sure we reach our goal of a
minimum of $2,500. In order for the staff at Oakland Tech to advertise the
scholarship in a timely manner and award the scholarship in the spring cycle,
we will need to establish the amount, criteria, and process by mid-January.

Please remember Eleanor – honor her life-long commitment to good government and
social equity. Eleanor did not want a memorial service. This is our way to
remember her; honor her; and encourage her legacy to live on in the next
generation. Please show your respect for Eleanor and demonstrate your Holiday
spirit in this very real and direct way. Make a donation by December 31, 2016
to help us meet and exceed our minimum financial goal of $2,500. We can’t do it
without you.
